Pastoral Living Support

Pastoral Living Support

For a long time, pastors in Myanmar have responded faithfully to God’s call while carrying heavy burdens of daily life. Without sufficient support from denominations or church institutions, many pastors survive on a meager allowance of about 30 USD per month—barely enough to get by. Yet this small amount is far from sufficient to sustain their families.

Due to traditional religious views, pastors in Myanmar face unique challenges. It is widely believed that a pastor’s mission must be fully devoted to church-related ministry, and therefore they are restricted from taking on secular jobs to earn additional income. As a result, they have no other means of livelihood and must rely solely on minimal living allowances.

Faced with such hardship, many pastors are eventually forced to leave their ministry and seek work in society. Although this decision is made out of necessity, it becomes the only way to survive. Most of these pastors have been serving in remote or underdeveloped areas—places that few are willing to go. When they leave, these regions are left without shepherds, and replacing them with city pastors requires not only significant costs but also long periods of cultural and relational adjustment, often with little success in the end.

To help ease these burdens, Myanmar Theological & Mission Resources has been making efforts to provide some living support through the help of individuals and organizations. Currently, we are able to give about 100 USD per month in support (at this time, only two pastors are receiving this assistance, while many others are still in need of similar help). Compared with the usual 30 USD monthly allowance, this support—though limited—significantly lightens their survival pressure.

You can also take part by “adopting” a pastor and providing more direct support to those faithfully serving on the front lines. Such a commitment not only meets practical needs but also strengthens the bond between supporters and pastors, giving them stronger encouragement in their ministry. This form of support helps sustain pastoral stability and ensures that they can remain dedicated to serving their churches and communities.

Today, pastors in Myanmar face uniquely difficult challenges. But through your help and support, we can share together in God’s work and create a more stable ministry environment for these front-line pastors—so that they can devote themselves more fully to proclaiming the gospel of Christ and shepherding His people.
